PREORDER Tara Skirt & Pinafore Pattern || #2404
Difficulty: Intermediate
The Tara Skirt & Pinafore is the modern sister to the historical Seatoun Skirt pattern.
It takes the classic A-line shape and fun pockets of its historical inspiration and gives them an easy-to-wear 21st century update, with shorter lengths, a comfortable elasticised back waistband, modern sewing techniques and notions, and a pinafore option.
View A has a pinafore bodice based on Edwardian apron bodices, triangular sail-shaped bucket pockets placed on the front of the skirt, a center back seam, no center front seam, and is designed to end at mid calf.
View B has center front and back seams and shield-shaped bucket pockets placed on the side seams over the hips. Both the skirt body and the pockets can be cut on the straight grain or the bias, so you can play with stripes and patterns for a range of looks.
Both views have a smooth front waistband and an elasticised back waistband, with the join of the waistband set back from the side seams 1''/2.5cm, for a sleeker silhouette from the front. They feature narrow turned hems and can be sewn with french seams or flat felled seams for an elegant professional finish.
Mix and match pockets, pinafore bodice and skirt length for a range of looks.

Recommended Materials
Recommended Materials
Midweight wovens in cotton, linen, silk, wool, rayon and synthetics. Suggested fabrics are: chambray; lightweight corduroy; craft cottons; cotton sateen; very lightweight denims, suiting weight wools; rayon/viscose twills; lightweight wool crepe, silk noil.
Too heavy fabrics will result in too much bulk in the elasticized waist. Too light fabrics will not be able to support the pockets with any weight in them.
All the fabric requirements are for non-directional fabrics. Extra fabric will be needed for directional prints, print matching, and very wide stripes. Less fabric will be needed for a shorter skirt/pinafore.
