"1809 Stripes" has been in the works for well over a year. Working from a collection of antique swatches from an Ackermann's Repository page, we set out to reproduce this finely woven stripe featured as their offerings.

Due to modern machines, we could not reproduce the little loop-de-do in the center of the stripes, but we were able to get the weight of fabric and size of the stripes close to the original swatch.

Woven stripes like this one were very popular for garments from the late 1780s to modern times. Though this size of stripe is documented to 1809, it would be perfectly suitable for garments from the 1780s onward and for accessories (caps, aprons, ruffles, capelets, etc) throughout the 18th century onward.

Our fabric is an incredibly light and sheer cotton with a light drape; perfect for summer garments. This fabric would be suitable for chemise gowns, empire waisted gowns, wrappers & negligees, children's clothing, frothy petticoats and lightly used home furnishings.

This fabric is a certified organic textile and is sold by the yard. VFG Fabrics are limited quantities, but may be restocked throughout the year.
