Handmade Untrimmed (slightly) Open Weave Bonnet suitable for impressions 1795-1815 for women or girls. Based on examples from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Augusta Auctions, fashion plates and the 1995 film of Sense and Sensibility.
This lovely open weave bonnet is made with fine decoratively woven straw in a wonderfully fun black & wheat color combination. It is great for summer since it is lightweight and sheer, and has a lovely delicate aesthetic that provides some sun protection for the face Spring thru Fall. Sometimes referred to as a "capote" this style fits closely to the head with an over-brow brim — which was very stylish from 1798-1810. This bonnet sits best with hair done in a mid or low bun on the back of head.
