**THIS IS NOT A FINISHED CALASH**

Size: Large (17" tall)
Difficulty: Intermediate

The Calash is fun and fabulous accessory for any fashionable woman who dares brave the elements or wants to make a statement when walking into a room. Calashes were essentially caned hoods that sat upon the shoulders and were typically tied at the neck. A long ribbon loop was fixed to the front to allow the wearer to pull the calash forward so it would catch as little wind as possible when walking in inclimate weather. This accessory, however, did not escape the gaze of onlookers and was often the butt of the joke in many satirical prints. This calash style is appropriate for 1770–1785, when hairstyles reached their greatest heights. It stands 17” tall from neck binding to top and features 5 canes for stability.
