Research & Inspiration
Research & Inspiration
Here are some helpful links to the research and inspirations of this product:
Calashes were essentially caned hoods that sat upon the shoulders and were typically tied at the neck. A long ribbon loop was fixed to the front to allow the wearer to pull the calash forward so it would catch as little wind as possible when walking in inclimate weather. This accessory, however, did not escape the gaze of onlookers and was often the butt of the joke in many satirical prints.
